Super Falcons forward Joy Omewa has joined Swedish club BK Häcken from Nottingham Forest on a contract running until the end of the 2029 season, www.aclsports.com reports.
The 23-year-old joins UEFA Women’s Europa Cup winners BK Häcken after a successful four-and-a-half-year spell with Fortuna Hjørring. She began her European career with B93 after playing for Confluence Queens in Nigeria, and most recently had a brief spell with Nottingham Forest before moving to Sweden.
Omewa enjoyed a prolific spell in Denmark, particularly during the 2024/25 season, when she scored 22 goals in 24 league appearances to finish as the league’s top scorer. Fortuna Hjørring also completed a domestic double by winning the Danish league title and the Danish Cup.
In total, Omewa scored 55 league goals in Denmark and added seven goals in European competition, featuring in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying rounds and the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup.
“Joy is a physically dominant player with a lot of power, but she is also a striker who contributes to the play and is a killer in the box. Her instinct for scoring goals is clear, and she is always looking for the next opportunity,” BK Häcken football director Martin Ericsson said.
Omewa also recently enjoyed a major breakthrough at international level, making her debut for Nigeria and scoring twice for the Super Falcons against Senegal.
The forward has been selected for Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which begins on 26 July. She will be joined in the Super Falcons squad by her new BK Häcken team-mate, midfielder Halimatu Ayinde.
The Nigerian forward said joining BK Häcken was an easy decision, describing the club as the right environment for her continued development.
“I know that BK Häcken is a fantastic club that helps its talents develop. I feel that this is the right place for me,” she said.
Omewa will look to build on her impressive goalscoring record and continue her development at BK Häcken after the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as she begins the next chapter of her career in Sweden.
