Nigerian forward, Joy Omewa, scored the winner to fire Fortuna Hjørring into the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup Round of 16 in a 1–0 victory against Vorskla Poltava on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The 22-year-old struck in the 14th minute to seal a 2–1 aggregate win for the Danish side. In the first leg, she had scored the equaliser after Roksolana Kravchuk had put Vorskla Poltava ahead.
The goal marked Omewa’s fifth of the European season, three in four Champions League qualifiers and two in two Europa Cup matches, continuing her fine form for Fortuna Hjørring.
It also celebrated a personal milestone, as she made her 100th appearance for the club and was presented with a bouquet before kickoff. With this goal, she extended her scoring run to seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Super Falcons defender Shukurat Oladipo made her UEFA Women’s Champions League debut for AS Roma Femminile in their 4–0 loss to FC Barcelona Femení.
The 21-year-old, who was playing for FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) as recently as January 2025, has completed a remarkable rise to face Barcelona in the UWCL just nine months later.
Esmee Brugts opened the scoring in the first half before second-half goals from Kika Nazareth, Alexia Putellas who converted a penalty after missing one earlier, and substitute Caroline Graham Hansen sealed the win.
Putellas’ strike made her Spain’s all-time top scorer in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with 27 goals.
Her compatriot, Rinsola Babajide, was unavailable for AS Roma through injury.
