Nigeria Super Falcons have dropped seven places to 43rd in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking, losing 83.54 points following a disappointing campaign at the WAFCON 2026, www.aclsports.com reports.
Released on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, the ranking sees the 10-time African champions fall from 36th in the previous edition published in June to 43rd, with their points tally dropping to 1,518.02. Nigeria recorded the biggest points loss among all teams in the latest update but remain Africa’s highest-ranked women’s national team.
The Super Falcons endured a disappointing WAFCON campaign, failing to reach the semi-finals for the first time in their history. A subsequent 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the tournament’s World Cup qualification play-off ended Nigeria’s record of appearing at every Women’s World Cup since its inception in 1991.
South Africa dropped two places to 59th, while African champions Cameroon climbed nine places to 62nd. Morocco sit 64th, Ghana fell to 65th and Zambia dropped to 70th. Côte d’Ivoire, Algeria, Senegal and Mali occupy 72nd, 73rd, 76th and 86th positions, respectively.
Malawi recorded the biggest rise globally, climbing 49 places to 104th after reaching the WAFCON final and securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Egypt suffered the steepest drop, falling 14 places to 113th, while the Democratic Republic of Congo dropped eight places to 114th and Zimbabwe fell nine places to 136th.
Spain remain top of the global rankings, followed by the United States and Germany. England sit fourth, ahead of Japan in fifth, while France, Brazil, Sweden and Canada occupy sixth to ninth, respectively. Denmark climbed two places to 10th, returning to the top 10 for the first time since August 2010.
The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking update is scheduled for 7 December 2026.
