Nigeria international Joy Omewa has joined Nottingham Forest Women on a permanent contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, www.aclsports.com reports.

The 23-year-old forward joins the Club from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring, where she scored over 50 goals in five seasons, helping the team lift the Danish Women’s Cup twice and secure the Kvindeligaen league title in 2024/25. She was crowned the Danish Women’s League Player of the Season for 2024/25, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 22 goals and four assists in just 23 matches.

This season, Omewa has already netted three goals in four UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers and has also contributed in Europa Cup matches for Fortuna Hjørring.

Omewa began her career at Osun Babes at youth level before joining Confluence Queens, and later moved to Danish side Boldklubben af 1893 (B.93) in 2021, where she scored three goals in nine appearances. She subsequently signed for Fortuna Hjørring, where her prolific form helped the club secure a league and cup double.

Nottingham Forest Women Head Coach, Carly Davies, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Joy Omewa to Nottingham Forest. She is a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal, and her ability to score consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad. Joy is exactly the type of player who can help us push forward and achieve our ambitions.”

Speaking after signing, Omewa added: “I am delighted to join Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club, and I’m excited to be part of the team. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to an already talented squad.”

Fans can expect fireworks up front as Omewa brings her goal-scoring magic to Forest this season.
