Nigeria’s Mixed 4x400m quartet of Ezekiel Asuquo, Toheebat Jimoh, Victor Sampson and Patience Okon-George won gold at the ongoing 2026 African Athletics Championships in Ghana, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Nigerian team delivered a strong performance to take victory in the event, finishing in a winning time of 3:16.41 to secure Nigeria’s second gold medal of the championships.
Patience Okon-George, who anchored the victory, was part of the team that secured qualification for next year’s World Championships in the mixed 4x400m at the 2026 Debswana World Athletics Relays a few weeks ago.
The result adds to Nigeria’s growing medal haul in Ghana, including Tobi Amusan’s gold in the women’s 100m hurdles, silver in the women’s hammer throw, and bronze medals in the men’s 100m and women’s discus events.
With the latest triumph included, Nigeria’s medal tally at the championships after Day 2 now stands at two gold, three silver and three bronze medals (eight in total).
Action continues on Thursday, 14 May, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, with heptathlon events in the morning and a busy evening programme featuring finals in the men’s and women’s 400m, 800m, 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, long jump and high jump. Relay heats for the women’s and men’s 4x100m also close out the day.
