Defending champions, Dolphins, opened their campaign in the Atlantic Conference of the 2026 Zenith Bank NBBF Women’s Basketball Premier League with a 59-46 win over First Deep Waters on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Phase 1 of the league, which runs from 15-22 August, got underway at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, with Dolphins among four teams to claim victories on the opening day.
Dolphins trailed 17-13 after the first quarter against First Deep Waters but responded to lead 34-25 at halftime. They maintained their advantage after the break, leading 43-33 after three quarters before closing out a 13-point victory.
Victoria Queens recorded the biggest win of the day on their league debut, beating IGP Queens 69-39. Victoria led 16-9 after the first quarter and 38-14 at halftime before extending their advantage to 52-27 after three quarters.
FirstBank also secured a win, overcoming Royal Aces 58-56 after building a 41-19 halftime lead. Royal Aces fought back in the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback.
MFM completed the other win, defeating Bayelsa Blue Whales 65-29 after leading 36-18 at halftime.
Monday’s fixtures will see Royal Aces face First Deep Waters, FirstBank take on IGP Queens, Dolphins meet Bayelsa Blue Whales, and MFM face Victoria Queens.
Meanwhile, the Savannah Conference gets underway in Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State, from 17 to 24 August, with Air Warriors facing Kada Angels, Nasarawa Amazons taking on Ham Warriors, Titans meeting Nigeria Customs and debutants Aso Sky Queens facing Plateau Rocks.
