Goalkeeper Kayode Bankole has explained the reason behind his switch to Tanzania ahead of the new football season, www.aclsports.com reports.
Bankole, who won the 2025 NPFL title at Remo Stars, moved to South Africa some months back but due to a transfer ban he failed to feature for TS Galaxy.
Now, he has completed a switch to newly promoted Tanzanian Premier League side Geita Gold until the end of the season.
In a brief chat with ACLSports, the shot stopper explained the reason behind his move to East Africa and what he hopes to achieve with the side.
“When I moved to South Africa, things didn’t go as planned. That’s why I decided to try things out in Tanzania,” Bankole explained.
“Although I have been working hard in training to get back into shape, nothing else is the focus is just to help the team and also help myself to get back fully into the shape,” the former Shooting Stars goalkeeper added.
“I want the team to do well. Finish in a good position. Being a promoted side, the focus is to stay up, steady in the league or win a cup,” said Bankole about his ambition with his new side.
Despite winning the Nigerian league title with Remo Stars in the 2024/25 season, the Sky Blue Stars went down last term and Bankole was displeased about it.
“I was not happy about Remo Stars’ relegation. It was not a thing of joy. I couldn’t believe it but it is what it is,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Bankole, who kept a clean sheet in a friendly win over JKT, didn’t feature for his new side in their 1-0 opening match day win at Mbeya City on Friday.
