It will be recalled that the Greece-based striker missed Nigeria’s last group game against Uganda due to the same issue, and was scheduled to have a scan. It has now been confirmed by the team that Dessers has been ruled out of the AFCON tournament and has subsequently returned to his club, Panathinaikos.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria returned to the training pitch on Friday evening with renewed focus as preparations intensified for the knockout phase of the tournament.

A total of 25 players participated in the session, which marked the first full training session since Nigeria secured progression from the group stage. Chelle used the session to remind his players that the tournament has now entered its most demanding stage.

Meanwhile, injured defender Ryan Alebiosu was present at training but did not participate in drills, as he continues to recover from a leg injury. On the other hand, midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi missed Friday’s training session due to illness. The player is reportedly battling a cold, and medical staff are monitoring his condition ahead of the next match.

The Super Eagles will face Mozambique in their round of 16 game on Monday in Fes. The match has been scheduled for 8pm (local time/Nigerian time).
