The worst kept secret of the 2020/2021 NPFL season was eventually revealed on Thursday when Adamawa United were relegated to the second division after a 0-4 loss at Dakkada FC.

United had languished at the bottom of the league table for virtually all of the season but kudos to them, they hung on to their tiny hopes for as long as they could, confirming second division status with only four matches to go.

Playing at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, they suffered a comprehensive defeat in the hands of their hosts who scored two goals in each half to put them to the sword.

Austin Osayande and Sunday Awasa’s strikes (20′ & 28′) gave Dakkada a commanding first half lead but they had to wait till the last five minutes of the game to add more gloss to the scorelines courtesy of Jesam Uket and Rivio Ayemwenre (86′ & 90′).

While Adamawa United’s fate was only a matter of when, FC Ifeanyiubah who are battling for their safety in the top flight were held to a 1-1 draw in Nnewi by Enyimba, throwing some daggers into the hearts of the Anambra Warriors.

Uzochukwu Ifejiofor headed home Evans Ogbonda’s corner in the 30th minute to give the hosts the lead but Enyimba’s Beninoise defender Nabil Yarou replied with a header of his own four minutes from time to ensure a share of the spoils.

In the other league game decided on Thursday, Michael Ohanu netted a hattrick to give Kwara United a 3-1 win over Wikki Tourists at the Kwara State Sports Complex, Ilorin.

Ohanu’s treble took his tally for the season to eleven goals and helped his side to keep touch with the high flying sides. Chinedu Udeagha scored a consolation early in the second half.

Match Day 35 comes up on Sunday.
