Nigeria Senior Women’s Handball Team reached the semi-finals of the IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III after a 33–25 win over hosts Burkina Faso on Friday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The hosts made a strong start at the Palais des Sports de Ouaga 2000 and kept the contest close in the opening half, but Nigeria edged the period 14–13 to take a one-goal advantage into the interval.
Nigeria stepped up their performance after the restart, outscoring Burkina Faso 19–12 to pull away and secure an eight-goal victory, remaining unbeaten and finishing top of Group A.
Wuraola Nuhu was Nigeria’s leading scorer with six goals, while Chinemerem Grace Ahamefula, Kirnan Haruna, Racheal Ovetou, Daina Saaloo and Mercy Audu finished with four goals apiece.
Balkisu Muhammad, who also found the net four times, was named Player of the Match following her performance.
Nigeria will face Benin in the semi-finals on Saturday, 5 September.
