The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set for today’s showdown with Zimbabwe, as they begin their Unity Cup title defence in London, www.aclsports.com reports.
Eric Chelle’s men emerged champions last year in Brentford and will be competing against the Warriors in the first semi-final game at the Valley – home of Charlton Athletic, on Tuesday.
Jamaica and India will trade tackles in the second semifinal match on Wednesday, with the winners of both semis facing off in the final on March 30, while the losers play in a third-place match on the same day at The Valley.
The Super Eagles had their final training session on Monday evening, with some of the invited players still unavailable. Skipper Wilfred Ndidi and Moses Simon are yet to report in camp, meaning they will miss today’s game. Meanwhile, Czech league champion Igoh Ogbu and US-based Yusuf Alhassan arrived on Monday morning, so it remains to be seen whether they will feature in the match.
All the invited NPFL stars have taken part in the sessions since arriving on Saturday. New goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is expected to make his debut, while Rangers International defender Chibueze Oputa, who is the only right-back in the squad, is expected to feature in the contest. According to reports, Ikorodu City midfielder Tosin Onyedokun has impressed in the first few sessions and could even get the nod to start.
Tuesday’s game at the Valley has been scheduled to go ahead by 7:30pm Nigerian time.
