Edo Queens interim coach Kennedy Boboye believes his side could have scored more than seven goals in their 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying opening victory over AS GNN on Monday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Speaking after the game, Boboye praised his players for following instructions and taking their chances, while pointing to their recent scoring form.
“The girls played to instruction because in the competition when you have the first game, the only thing that counts is how much you take your opportunities and chances, which I think we did today. It’s not a surprise to me we got up to seven. We have been having lots of goal-scoring games. Some matches we played, we scored four or five. If we had taken all our chances, it would have been more than seven,” he said.
Boboye admitted he had little information about the opponents before the encounter, having been unable to find much about the Nigerien champions online.
“I didn’t know anything about them because I tried to search for them on the net, I couldn’t find anything about them. So we just decided to take the game the way it came,” he explained.
Edo Queens now face tougher tests against ASEC Mimosas and Ampem Darkoa, with Boboye expecting difficult games but targeting convincing wins in both.
“The next two games that we will be playing are going to be tough ones for us. Those are the games we need actually to win and win convincingly, because those are two teams that I know will be tough in the group,” he said.
“ASEC Mimosas lost their game, they will come out smoking to make sure they get the three points, but we won’t allow that. We want to go out and still win the way we’ve just done today, maybe, taking our chances and scoring.”
