World record holder Tobi Amusan clocked 12.29s to win silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, securing Nigeria’s first medal of the tournament, www.aclsports.com reports.

Despite a slow start out of the blocks, the world record holder showed her trademark determination, closing strongly and nearly snatching victory. Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji held on to take gold in a national record of 12.24s, while Grace Stark of the USA secured bronze in 12.34s. Olympic champion Masai Russell (USA) finished fourth in 12.44s, just missing out on the podium.

The rest of the field included Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland and Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who both ran seasonal bests of 12.49s, followed by Danielle Williams of Jamaica in 12.53s, and Nadine Visser of the Netherlands rounding out the finalists in 12.56s.

Amusan’s podium finish underscores her consistency at the highest level and gives Nigeria a strong start on the medal table in Tokyo.
