Asaba 2018: Yinka Ajayi wins bronze in the 400m

National 400 meters champion, Yinka Ajayi fished third with a time of 51.34 seconds of the women’s 400m event at the ongoing CAA African Senior Athletics Championships.

Yinka after the race told www.aclsports.com that the next target is to win a medal at the intercontinental cup later this year.

Ajayi who won a bronze medal in the women’s 4×400 meters at the 2018 Commonwealth Games thanked those who believed in her, promising not to let her guards down.

“I feel very excited winning a silver medal in the 400 metres where the best athletes not only in Africa but the World competed in”, she said.

“I had expectations on winning any colour of medal because I worked hard towards it combining education and sports together. So I believed I’ll be amongst the top three”.

She said, “Now, I’ll shift my attention to the intercontinental cup later this year. I really appreciate my fans and well wishers for their love and support. I love them all”.

South Africa’s Caster Semenya won the race with a time of 49.96 seconds, while Christine Botlogetwe of Botswana came second with 51.19 seconds.

Sierra Leone’s Margaret Barriere finished fourth with a time of 52.06 seconds, while Patience Okon-George came fifth with a time of 52.34 seconds.
