Ampem Darkoa Ladies have lodged a formal protest to WAFU Zone B and CAF over the penalty shootout decision in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers final, www.aclsports.com reports.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ampem Darkoa said the decision was made without any communication to the team and was contrary to the written provisions of the CAF Women’s Champions League Regulations.
The Ghanaian club said teams were informed at the Management Committee Meeting that two 15-minute periods of extra time would be played if a match ended in a draw after 90 minutes.
According to the club, the final against Edo Queens on 5 September ended 2-2 after regulation time before the General Coordinator ordered a penalty shootout without extra time being played.
“We had four substitutes ready to come in only to be told penalty shootout against the express written provisions of the CAF Women’s Champions League Regulations,” the club stated.
Edo Queens won 4-1 on penalties to secure the WAFU-B title and qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Ampem Darkoa have requested that the 30 minutes of extra time be played or that the match be continued from where it ended.
The Ghanaian club said it was awaiting the verdict of CAF and the WAFU Zone B secretariats.
