Team Nigeria successfully defended their CAA Region 2 title, finishing at the top of the medal table after a thrilling two-day championship in Accra, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Nigerian squad amassed 25 medals, 15 gold, 8 silver, and 2 bronze, outpacing second-placed Burkina Faso, who collected 21, at the University of Ghana Sports Complex.

On the final day, Prestina Ochonogor led Nigeria’s field events, winning the women’s Long Jump with a season-best 6.76m. The leap not only improved on her 6.71m mark from the African U20 Championships in Abeokuta but also came just shy of her personal best of 6.79m.

In the men’s Javelin, Samuel Adams Kure put on a commanding display, claiming gold with a throw of 73.54m, the only competitor to surpass the 70m mark. Burkina Faso’s Daouda Coulibaly took silver with 65.49m, while Ghana’s Gabriel Teye earned bronze with a throw of 64.08m.

The championship highlighted Nigeria’s growing dominance in West African athletics. With strong performances across both track and field events, the team not only secured the top spot but also reinforced their status as the squad to beat in Region 2 competitions.
