Lafia-based FC Basira defeated Mighty Jets FC of Jos 3-1 to kick off proceedings in the 2025/26 Nigeria National League season opener on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.

It was the curtain raiser for the new season of the nation’s second division at the Lafia Township Stadium. The Lafia side dominated their opposition in a fixture also watched by the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule.

FC Basira’s midfielder Abubakar Yusuf scored a brace in the 5th and 39th minutes to give the Baffa Boys a healthy lead at the break. The second half then saw the visitors step up their performance, but it was the hosts that added a third through winger Peter Eneji from long range immediately after the restart.

Just two minutes after the hour mark, an Emmanuel Iliya own-goal gift Mighty Jets International a consolation, but the scoreline remained that way at the end of regulation. The scoreline could have been much higher if not for the poor finishing of the home side.

FC Basira will now travel to Ilorin, Kwara State, where they will face ABS FC on matchday two on November 22nd, 2025, in Ilorin Township Stadium.

Meanwhile, other match day one matches of the groups in this new season will be played next weekend across the nation.
