The Super Eagles of Nigeria have successfully retained the Unity Cup following a comfortable 3-0 bashing of Jamaica in the final on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Eric Chelle’s men dispatched the Warriors of Zimbabwe in the semi-final to reach the final against the Reggae Boys, who also defeated India in the other semifinal to set up a repeat of last year’s final in London.
Unlike the 2025 final that was decided on penalties, the second-string Super Eagles side showed their superiority to secure a thumping win. Alhassan Yusuf scored twice, while Terem Moffi netted the other at the Valley in Charlton.
It was a thorough performance from the Super Eagles, who limited the Jamaicans to no shots on target in the contest. Yusuf opened the scoring as early as the third minute, and the lead was preserved until the break.
After the interval, Femi Azeez, who scored both goals against Zimbabwe, set up Moffi beautifully just before the hour mark to double Nigeria’s lead before Alhassan completed his brace in stoppage time to wrap up the win.
Shooting Stars duo of Tijani Al-ameen and Ayobami Junior made late cameo appearances to mark their first appearance for the men’s national team. Only Ikorodu City’s goalkeeper, Michael Atata, did not make an appearance among the NPFL stars in the squad for the tournament.
Eric Chelle, who has named a different squad for the June friendlies against Poland and Portugal, will hope to steer the Super Eagles to outstanding results.
