Tobi Amusan and Favour Ofili won the 100m hurdles and 200m respectively at the Grand Prix Brescia, while Kayinsola Ajayi claimed the 100m at GalAthletics Bellinzona on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Amusan clocked 12.56 seconds to win the women’s 100m hurdles, overcoming a stiff -1.7m/s headwind to finish ahead of American Alaysha Johnson, who was second in 12.62 seconds, while Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent took third in 12.75 seconds.
The victory comes days after Masai Russell broke the 100m hurdles world record, previously held by Amusan, with a time of 12.09 seconds, while the Nigerian finished second at the Zurich Diamond League.
Meanwhile, Ofili also produced a dominant performance in the women’s 200m, clocking 22.03 seconds to finish ahead of Jamaica’s Ashanti Moore, who ran 22.47 seconds, while Ivory Coast’s Maboundou Kone took third in 22.66 seconds.
Ajayi powered to victory in the men’s 100m at GalAthletics Bellinzona, clocking 9.91 seconds with a 0.2m/s tailwind. American Ronnie Baker finished second in 9.94 seconds, while South Africa’s Akani Simbine took third in 9.95 seconds.
