ANOCA Games: NVBF invites 13 players to camp

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has invited 20 players (women) ahead of the 2023 Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Games in Togo, www.aclsports.com gathered.

The 2023 Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone III Games is scheduled for 4th to 9th December in Lome, Togo.

The NVBF approved the appointment of Elishama Elam and Segun Abinde as coaches to lead the team to the ANOCA Zone III Games while Ijeoma Ukpabi of COAS Spikers has been named captain of the side.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2023 Nigeria Volleyball Premier League, Maryam Usman has been handed her first senior call up by the NVBF due to her explosive performance at the league. The NVBF has called for the first time, CNS Spikers setter, Gift Michael and COAS Spikers Middle, Sarah Ali.

There were also recalls for NSCDC Albertina Francis, Happy Wushilang and CNS Spikers player, Jummai Bitrus.

The Technical Director of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Chief Martin Melandi told www.aclsports.com that the ANOCA Games will be used as a training tour ahead of next year’s African Games qualifiers.

Melandi said, “The Federation is putting up measures to ensure the players have more international playing time ahead of the African Games. The ANOCA Games is an opportunity for the players to test their strength and capacity as a team.

“The players resumed camp a day after the conclusion of the 2023 Nigeria Volleyball Premier League and the camp will help them bond properly before participating in the Games”.

Libero- Jummai Bitrus and Mariam Usman.

Opposite- Kelechi Ndukauba and Albertina Francis

Outside Hitter- Ijeoma Ukpabi, Happy Wushilang and Maryam Ibrahim

Middle- Helen Umeh, Deborah Chukwu, Sarah Ali and Blessing Unekwe.
