The Confederation of African Football (CAF), Africa’s football governing body, has announced the shortlists for the 2024 CAF Awards’ men’s category, www.aclsports.com reports.

Super Eagles duo of Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), and William Troost-Ekong (Al-Kholood Club) were nominated in the Player of the Year category. At the same time, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United) will battle South Africa’s Ronwen Williams for the Goalkeeper of the Year award.

The trio all played a key role in helping Nigeria reach the final of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in February. At the club level, they were also excellent. More importantly, Lookman had a stellar summer with his Italian side as he led them to the UEFA Europa League triumph scoring a hat-trick in the final. In addition, he is also the only African on the Ballon d’Or list for this year’s edition.

Meanwhile, nominees for the other categories – Interclub Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year – were also released by CAF on Thursday.

The CAF Awards 2024 cover the period between January 2024 and October 2024.

The ultimate winner of each category will be decided after votes from a voting panel consisting of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals from Member Associations, Head Coaches, and captains of Member Associations and clubs involved in the group stages of the Interclub competitions.

The Awards Gala will take place on Monday, 16 December 2024, at the Palais des Congrès, Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco.
