The Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation (NAWF) has assembled a team of 16 athletes to fly the country’s flag at the 13th African Games in Ghana from 8th to 23rd March, 2024.
According to a statement made available www.aclsports.com, the team consists of eight men, six women and two coaches.
Olubisi Oyewusi (+80kg) has been appointed captain of the women’s team while Chinedu Isamah (75kg) will lead the men’s team. Dapo Akinsanya and Isioma Osho are the coaches of the teams.
Topping the list of women Arm Wrestlers is African champion, Elizabeth Zannu (55kg), Nnena Chika (55kg), Ovayioza Matthew (70kg), Adebimpe Ogungbure (70kg) and Ndidi Eze (80kg).
In the men’s category are: Tunde Ajao (55kg), Abiodun Yinusa (65kg), Ebi Ekwok (65kg), Aniedi Godwin (75kg), Chinedu Isamah (75kg), Ifeanyi Nmeka (85kg), Fatai Balogun (85kg) and Oluwatobiloba Adedokun (100kg).
Olubisi Oyewusi told www.aclsports.com that the Arm Wrestlers will not let the country down at the 13th African Games.
Oyewusi revealed that the team is mentally and physically prepared to take on any African team.
She said, “Nigerians are expecting a lot from us, and we will not let them down. The team is ready mentally and physically, we’re much prepared.
“People should be optimistic because we have dedicated a lot of time to training. Arm Wrestling is all about your training, and when you know you’ve trained very well, that is what gives you confidence.
“And our mission is to make a huge statement performance at the African Games. Nigeria placed third at the 12th edition of the Africa Arm wrestling Championship in Accra last year, we want to beat Ghana at home this year.
