Botswana’s Chef de mission to the 2nd Africa Beach Games, Dr Moagi Sharp says the beach volleyball team is targeting a podium finish in Tunisia.
The 2023 Africa Beach Games will be hosted by Tunisia from 23rd to 30th June at the Yasmine Hammamet resort in Tunisia.
In an exclusive interview with www.aclsports.com, Sharp said Botswana is presenting one sport due to its comparative advantage over others in the Beach Games.
Sharp who doubles as the President of the Botswana Wrestling Federation said the target of the team is to qualify for the 2023 World Beach Games in Indonesia.
He said, “Botswana will feature in only the beach volleyball event at the 2023 African Beach Games in Tunisia. This is because Botswana is ranked number one in our region and there lies our strength.
“We are confident that Botswana will make a podium finish in terms of our style of play. Despite being in a tough group, the players will defeat their various opponents.
“Our target is to qualify for the ANOC World Beach Games Bali, Indonesia later this year and this will be a preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
“I want to assure the people of Botswana that the team will bring glory to the nation in terms of a podium finish bringing glory. Our team has qualified for the 2023 FIVB World Beach Volleyball Championship in Colombia; the team qualified last year in Morocco.”
Dr Sharp assures Botswanans of bringing glory to the country.
