Rivers United attacker Timothy Zechariah says his team will fight till the end as the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title race took a different dimension after Match Day 36 games on Sunday.
Zechariah scored Rivers United’s second goal in their 3-0 thumping of Abia Warriors at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, a win that kept them one point behind Rangers with two games left.
League leaders Rangers beat Bayelsa United 2-0 away from home on Sunday in a somewhat unexpected result that kept the Flying Antelopes in pole position in the title race.
“I’m happy for the win on Sunday (against Abia Warriors) but it is very important for us now to win our two remaining games so we can win the league,” began Zechariah to www.aclsports.com
“We have to win our last two matches and hope for our rivals Rangers to drop points but we have to win our own first before thinking about others,” he emphasised.
Sunday’s goal was his first for Rivers United in 2026 for Zechariah after a long goals drought. He came on for Wisdom Samuel at half time with scores still at 0-0 before inspiring a win for his side.
“I am quite happy with my goal yesterday because it’s been long I scored a goal. I’m really happy because I started from the bench and when I went in at the start of second half, I tried to bring up the momentum and pushed harder for my team,” added the former Ikorodu City star.
With two more games left in the season, Zechariah remains positive of a league conquest for his side.
“The league is still on, anything can happen, it is very important to get maximum three points in our next away game, not even a point, so will go all out to fight till the end. We have to fight and keep on fighting till the end of the league,” he concluded.
Rivers United will face Wikki Tourists in Jos next Sunday in their penultimate fixture while Rangers International host Bendel Insurance at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium.
Rivers United will fight till the end, says Timothy Zechariah
