Rangers International head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu says his side must now not lose concentration after they took a massive leap in the title challenge with a 2-0 away win at Bayelsa United on Sunday.
Experienced forwards Chidiebere Nwobodo and Godwin Obaje scored late in both halves of the Match Day 36 encounter decided at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa as the Flying Antelopes maintained their one-point lead at the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“It was a good game for us. I’m happy but we must not lose concentration. It was a great game,” Ilechukwu told www.aclsports.com after the game.
Rangers are gunning for a second league title in three years under Ilechukwu and have given that bid a huge boost with their first away win since January.
Despite being at the back foot for most of the second half, Rangers found the game clinching goal five minutes from time when Obaje brilliantly netted his 12th goal of the season from close range.
Ilechukwu hailed his defenders for bailing his team out when it was most needed.
“I’m not too happy with the second half because we didn’t play well but our defenders did well and our goalkeeper (Lucky Abdullahi) played their roles well.
“We will take this confidence into the next match and hopefully, we get the job done,” concluded Ilechukwu.
Rangers International remain one point ahead of Rivers United who thrashed Abia Warriors 3-0 in their own Match Day 36 encounter on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
Rangers will host Bendel Insurance in Enugu next Sunday while Rivers United travel to Jos to face relegation haunted Wikki Tourists in the penultimate round of the 2025/2026 NPFL season.
