The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially confirmed November 26, 2025, as the kickoff date for the 2025/2026 Premiership season, with six teams to be relegated at the end of the campaign, www.aclsports.com reports.

The announcement was made during the league’s Annual General Assembly (AGA) held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, 29 October, where key resolutions were adopted to guide the new football year.

According to the season calendar unveiled during the meeting, the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership will commence on 26 November 2025 and conclude on 22 April 2026. Teams will play four rounds of fixtures before a short Christmas recess, with league action resuming on 7 January 2026.

A total of 20 clubs will compete in the new season, divided into two groups of ten. In line with the league’s promotion and relegation structure, six teams will be relegated at the end of the campaign, while two clubs from the NWFL Championship will be promoted to the Premiership.

Group A
Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Adamawa Queens, Pacesetter Queens, Heartland Queens, Ekiti Queens, Naija Ratels, Ibom Angels, Castmog Ladies, Rivers Angels

Group B
Nasarawa Amazons, Delta Queens, Sunshine Queens, Ahudiyannem Queens, Dannaz Ladies, Remo Stars Ladies, Osun Babes, Abia Angels, FC Robo Queens, Confluence Queens

The league confirmed that online registration for the new season will open on 14 November 2025 and close on 22 November 2025. Clubs will receive guided video tutorials to ensure smooth registration before the portal closes.

The NWFL is reinforcing its commitment to developing young talent, enforcing the 15–17 age rule and limiting clubs to three underage players per squad. The move aims to build a pipeline of elite players ready to compete at both continental and global levels.

On the financial side, clubs are now required to submit annual financial reports at season’s end, promoting transparency, accountability, and alignment with international standards in women’s football management.
