Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m relay team claimed gold at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, www.aclsports.com reports.
The quartet of Iyanuoluwa Bada, Miracle Ezechukwu, Maria Thompson, and Chioma Nweke crossed the finish line in 44.27 seconds, narrowly edging out Bahrain, who finished in 44.47 seconds, while Gambia took bronze in 45.05 seconds.
In the men’s 4x100m relay, Nigeria’s John Caleb, Chidera Ezeakor, Ezekiel Asuquo, and James Taiwo Emmanuel secured bronze, finishing behind Saudi Arabia, who took gold, and Oman, who claimed silver.
Nigeria’s wrestling contingent also impressed across multiple categories. In the women’s freestyle 53kg, Christianah Ogunsanya claimed gold, while Shokhida Akhmedova of Uzbekistan took silver. The bronze medals went to Aruuke K. Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan and Zeinep Bayanova of Kazakhstan. Meanwhile, Miesinnei M. Genesis secured silver in the women’s freestyle 50kg category, finishing behind Uzbekistan’s Aktenge Keunimjaeva and ahead of Azerbaijan’s Elnura Mammadova.
Patience Okon-George added a silver medal in the women’s 400m, clocking 51.93 seconds, just behind Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser (51.59s), with Uganda’s Leni Shida claiming bronze in 52.72 seconds.
The men’s 400m provided a thrilling contest, with Morocco’s Rachid M’hamdi taking gold in 45.40 seconds. Emmanuel Bamidele of the UAE earned silver in 45.71 seconds, while Nigeria’s Gafar Badmus claimed bronze, also in 45.71 seconds. zekiel Asuquo was unable to complete the race.
In the men’s javelin throw, Samuel Kure added another bronze, with a throw of 76.01m, narrowly behind Pakistan’s Muhammad Yasir (76.04m) and Arshad Nadeem (83.05m), who took silver and gold respectively.
Nigeria are currently ninth on the medal table, having won a total of 25 medals: 8 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze.
