Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed three places to 38th in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings announced on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.
In November, when the team played two matches, Eric Chelle’s men were able to gather slight momentum ahead of the final rankings of the year. The update simply reflects Nigeria’s win over Gabon and the draw with DR Congo, which was eventually decided via a penalty shootout in the CAF 2026 World Cup playoffs last week.
Despite failing to pick the ticket to represent the continent in the intercontinental World Cup playoffs, those results were enough to improve the Super Eagles’ position on the rankings table.
Morocco remain Africa’s top side in the world ranking on 1,713.12 points, Senegal sit 19th with 1,648.07 points, Egypt are 34th on 1,520.68, Algeria occupy 35th on 1,516.37, and Nigeria (1,502.46) completes the top 5.
The Super Eagles hold a narrow advantage over Tunisia, who are 40th on 1,497.13 points, and a wider margin over rivals such as Cote d’Ivoire and DR Congo, who have 1,489.59 and 1,442.50 points respectively.
In the World rankings, European champions Spain remain top, with world champions Argentina and France close behind. Brazil moved two places to fifth following their recent results, a shift that freed space for other nations to move.
Meanwhile, Eric Chelle and Nigeria can improve their rankings once again at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
