YourSportsMemo, ACLSports, was amongst the group of media houses hosted to a La Liga Derbies Close-up Event by LaLiga Nigeria on Wednesday.

The event was put together to further strengthen and improve on the knowledge for five of the biggest derbies set to be played in the second half of the 2018/2019 La Liga season.

The five derbies include the following; El Gran Derbi between Sevilla and Real Betis, Basque Derbi between Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao, the Catalan Derbi between FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol, Valencian Derbi between Valencia CF and Levante UD and the biggest of them all, the Madrid Derbi, which is between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

According to the LaLiga Nigeria Managing Director, Javier Del Rio, the close-up event, which was held at the Moist Beach club in Oniru Private Beach, Lagos, was to accord them the opportunity to “educate the media and raise awareness on the passion and culture of each of the five derbies.”

The media representatives at the event were given profound insight into the history and rivalry of each derby, as well as a wonderful display of their respective culture and delicacies.

Speaking exclusively to ACLSports.com after the program, Del Rio added; “We want Nigerians to get to know the LaLiga we know asides the El-Clasico.”

“We have some other games that are very big in Spain, and they are extremely important games for us and go beyond [just] football. So, they cut across cultures, fans and these are very passionate for us. We [therefore] want you to get to know them.”

Meanwhile, on their long term plans in Nigeria, Del Rio concluded by saying that LaLiga plan in Nigeria remains not just to improve the awareness of the league in the country but to also improve football which has led to partnerships with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
