Grassroots: Radio Nigeria Kids Football Challenge kicks off

The 2nd edition of the Radio Nigeria Kids Football Challenge will kick off on Monday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The Under-12 football competition will feature twenty schools from Rivers state.

Defending Champions Great Calvary clash with Marvel school in the opening game immediately after the opening ceremony billed for 12pm at the football pitch of Treasure 98.5 FM, Mgbuoba.

In other group fixtures billed for Monday, Spring Valley School will lock horns with High Cast International Academy; Redeemers International School face Cedar Mount while the last game of the day will be between Sleek Angels International School and Bloombreed Schools.

Chairman of the competiton’s Local Organising Committee, Kola Oredipe assured that preparation has reached advanced stage for a successful competition.

“I can say that all is set for the hosting of the 2nd edition of the Radio Nigeria Kids Football Challenge, which is being hosted by the South South Zone of Radio Nigeria.

“8 matches will be played from the group games, one winner will emerge eventually, and there will be three trophies which is the champions and then 2nd position and third position winner in different categories.

“The pitches are ready, the 20 teams that are participation are also jeering up to be part of this competition. For us as organizers we have done everything that is needed to be done to ensure that we have a successful competition.”

Mr. Oredipe said plans were on to expand the scope of the age grade football competition to other states in the south south in line with the vision of the Zonal Director of Radio Nigeria South South Zone, Dr. Jonas Emechebe.

The three week long competition will end on Friday, February 7, 2020.
