Lagos teams had a mixed day in the NPFL as Sporting Lagos were shocked 2-0 in Lagos, while Inter Lagos defeated Enyimba 1-0 in Aba to claim their first top-flight points, www.aclsports.com reports.
Having won the first Lagos derby of the season, Sporting came into Sunday’s game full of confidence, but they paid for their misses in the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
In their first NPFL home game in over two years, the Tech Boys dominated for long spells of the game, but they could not break down the defence of Imama Amapakabo’s men in the encounter. It was in the final moments that the Warriors scored two goals through Ettah Ikoi and Emeka Obioma to secure their first win of the season.
At the Enyimba Stadium, Inter Lagos gave it their all to beat nine-time champions Enyimba 1-0. Moses Ezekiel scored the game’s only goal midway through the contest. It is the Lagos side’s first set of points in their debut NPFL campaign.
In one of the other games decided on Sunday, Shooting Stars fell 3-1 to Plateau United in Jos. Taheer Abubakar opened the scoring for the Oluyole Warriors before the home side scored three second-half goals through Jibril Ibrahim, Seiyefa Jackson and Gideon Monday to take all three points.
It finished 1-1 between Nasarawa United and Rivers United at the Lafia City Stadium. Harrison Ebah’s own goal put Rivers United in front before the home side rescued a point via Musa Yakubu’s late penalty. Meanwhile, Warri Wolves defeated Kwara United 1-0 in Ozoro courtesy of Ejike Ezekiel’s early goal.
It was goals galore in Kano, where Kano Pillars handed Doma United their first defeat of the season. Abdullahi Musa, Rabiu Ali, Ahmed Musa and Nasiru Salihu scored for Daniel Ogunmodede’s side, while Sadiq Rilwan scored once more despite Doma’s heavy defeat.
In the Oriental Derby in Owerri, defending champions Rangers International defeated Kun Khalifat 4-2. Temitope Folarin, Waheed Adebayo and Chimbi Igwilo (brace) were the goal scorers for Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side, while Preye Seikorowei and Ayuba Umar scored for the hosts. Earlier on Saturday, Ranchers Bees and Katsina United claimed routine home wins.
Match day five action have been scheduled for midweek with ten games across different centres.
