Veteran coach Carlos Queiroz has confirmed he will leave his role as Ghana coach following the Black Stars’ last-32 exit at the FIFA World Cup 2026, www.aclsports.com reports.
The 73-year-old was appointed in April ahead of the Mundial in North America. He led the Black Stars through the group stage, where they defeated Panama 1-0 in their opening game before securing an impressive 0-0 draw with England.
However, they lost 2-1 against Croatia in their final group game tp qualify for the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams. In the Round of 32, the Black Stars were edged out 1-0 by Colombia, which proved to be Queiroz’s final game in charge.
“To my president and board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana national football team,” said Queiroz in a statement.
“It was an honour and privilege to serve the country and the Black Stars. To my players and staff, my deepest gratitude for your courage, commitment, and unwavering dedication to the team.
”To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”
The former Manchester United coach, by virtue of leading the West Africans, was at his fifth consecutive World Cup, having also led Iran, Portugal, and Egypt at major tournaments.
