Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala and Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane were the biggest winners on Thursday night as both players were named Africa’s best players for 2022 in the Women and Men’s category of the CAF Awards.

Oshoala, 27, who was ruled out of the about-to-be-concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after the first group game flew back to Rabat to receive her record fifth crown, beating Zambia’s Grace Chanda and Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout Njoya to this year’s gong.

The recognition means Oshoala surpasses compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha who won four Africa’s Best crowns during her playing days.

In the men’s category, former Liverpool star Sadio Mane scooped the award after a successful year during which he won the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and earned the Teranga Lions of Senegal a World Cup berth at the expense of Egypt.

Mane defeated compatriot Edouard Mendy and Egypt’s Mohammed Salah to win the gong while his national coach Aliou Cisse was named National Team coach of the year.

The awards were held at Morocco’s impressive Mohamed VI Technical Centre in Sale, Rabat and attended by a gathering of Africa’s top football personalities and football stars.
