Nasarawa Amazons overcame Heartland Queens 6-5 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after regulation time to win the 2026 Women’s President Federation Cup, www.aclsports.com reports.
A goal from each side in the second half at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba ensured the final ended level after 90 minutes, forcing the title to be decided by a penalty shootout.
The encounter was a closely contested affair, with both teams struggling to find a breakthrough in the opening half. The Lafia-based side started the brighter of the two teams, controlling the early exchanges, but they were unable to turn their possession into clear-cut chances.
Heartland Queens gradually grew into the game, improving their attacking play and creating opportunities of their own, although both goalkeepers remained alert to keep the score goalless at the interval.
Heartland Queens returned from the break with renewed intensity and broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, with Chizoba Johnson finishing calmly to give her side the lead.
Nasarawa Amazons responded by introducing Adaobi Judith in the 57th minute, and the substitute made an instant impact. Eight minutes after coming on, Adaobi found the back of the net from a scramble inside the box to restore parity in the 65th minute.
Neither side could find a winning goal after 90 minutes, sending the final to penalties.
Nasarawa Amazons held their nerve from the spot to secure a 6-5 shootout victory and claim their third President Federation Cup title.
The triumph marked redemption for the Amazons, who lost the previous final to Rivers Angels, as they reclaimed the trophy and added another major honour to their history.
