Chelsea legend Didier Drogba says he did not donate the sum of €1 million to his country Ivory Coast’s authorities as a contribution in the fight against the Coronavirus.

The former captain of the Elephants was responding to reports in the local media which ran multiples stories concerning the purported gift on Saturday.

“It’s not true. I did not make such a donation to the Ivorian government. I am not saying I won’t react during these difficult times we are all facing. But I am yet to do anything,” he said in a statement.

Moments after Drogba’s intervention, the authorities confirmed his version, saying they had no records of such donation.

“For now, we are yet to receive donations from Didier Drogba. It is not fair to spread such rumours in the current situation Ivorians are facing.”

Crystal Palace winger, Wilfried Zaha, offered medical equipment to the health ministry on Friday, as Ivory Coast clocks 140 cases of confirmation of Covid-19, with the main city Abidjan to be isolated from the rest of the country on Sunday.
