African champions, the Nigeria Super Falcons, have been named in the final shortlist for the 2025 CAF Women’s Team of the Year award, www.aclsports.com reports.

Announced on Friday, the final list for the 2025 CAF Women’s Team of the Year features the 10-time WAFCON winners, who came from 2–0 down to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2 and win the 2024 title, played in 2025 in Morocco. Nigeria won five of six matches, kept four clean sheets and conceded only twice from open play.

The Super Falcons, who won the award last year, will compete against Morocco and Ghana for the 2025 honour. Morocco, runners-up at WAFCON 2024, reached back-to-back finals after also finishing second to South Africa in 2022. Bronze medallists Ghana round out the shortlist, having narrowly defeated South Africa in the third-place match.

Meanwhile, Nigeria U17 captain Shakirat Moshood has been named among the final three nominees for the 2025 CAF Young Player of the Year (Women) award. The Bayelsa Queens midfielder played a key role in her team’s success in the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership and emerged as top scorer at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

She captained the Flamingos to the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. Moshood now competes for the award against Morocco’s Moha El Madani and Senegal’s Adji Ndiye, with the winners to be announced on Wednesday, 19 November 2025.
