National 800m Champion, Edose Ibadin has promised to bounce back bigger and stronger following his performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ibadin ran a time of 1:46:56m in the men’s 800m heat 2 finishing 6th at the Olympics before running a 1:49:09m in the repechage which could not secure him a place in the final.

The National Record holder revealed that the authorities in charge of sports in Nigeria need to focus on the process of getting medals rather than the medals.

The African Games gold medallist said he is proud of his performance at the just concluded Olympics.

Ibadin said, “We got to focus on the process of getting medals rather than the actual medals themselves. That’s when we’ll start getting medals.

“I am proud of myself and wish I performed better. I know I’m way better than my 1:44.6”.

The 31-year-old athlete said, “One of my favorite things about sports is who you meet along the way. We come from different nations yet come together for a common goal. Didn’t quite get the result I wanted but leaving with the experience of a lifetime.

Edose Ibadin has a Personal Best (PB) of 1:44.65 minutes, achieved in Washington, D.C. in July 2023.

He competed in the 2016 US Olympic trials as “unattached”, before switching allegiance to Nigeria
