After ten days of hostilities, Defence Spikers of Abuja ended their 2024 National Division Two Volleyball League (first phase) campaign unbeaten.

Defence Spikers defeated Wikki Spikers (3-1), Caliphate Spikers of Sokoto (3-1), Jewel Spikers of Gombe (3-0), Osun Spikers (3-0), Bayelsa Spikers (3-2) and Ajase Ipo (3-0) at the indoor sports hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

In an exclusive interview with www.aclsports.com, Dele Olafusoye the head coach of Defence Spikers said maintaining an unbeaten record in the first phase of the league means his team has improved drastically.

He revealed that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa bankrolled the team after they decided to feature in the league one week before the end of registration.

Olafusoye said, “I feel very grateful and I want to thank God for giving us the victory because this is the first time Defence Spikers will be attending the volleyball league.

“The decision to participate in the league came up a week before the commencement date; I called the players on the ground and informed them that we are featuring in the Division Two League and they promised me not to put the sponsor (Chief of Defence Staff) to shame and make him proud”.

Olafusoye said the Yenagoa Invitational Challenge 2024 and FCT Volleyball Challenge 2024 contributed immensely to putting his team in shape ahead of the league.

“The Yenagoa Invitational Challenge 2024 held last February held the shape of my team because a lot of the players who partook in the tournament were fielded in the league, playing very well. Do not forget that Defence Spikers finished second position at the FCT Volleyball Challenge 2024 held last April; we did not rest as most of our young players are actively playing volleyball on our home ground.

“I promise that Defence Spikers will not put the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa to shame in the second phase since he is our major sponsor. We are going to maintain our momentum by not losing any matches and gain promotion into the Division One League”, he added.
