National Champion, Phemmy Jackson (86kg) has called on the Government to expose him to international championships in order to become a world beater.
Phemmy Jackson (Ondo State) defeated African Champion Harrison Israel (Bayelsa State) 6 to 4 points to be crowned the New Champion of the 86kg Men Freestyle at the 2nd Gov Diri National Wrestling Classics in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State last August.
Jackson told www.aclsports.com that giving him the chance to compete internationally will boost him as it will help in national development.
He said, “I want the Ministry of Sports Development to support me; I am a brand new champion and need more exposure to become an African Champion as well as a world beater”.
The Akure-based wrestler said, “I made up my mind for the championship because it has been a long time coming to be crowned a champion.
“I give thanks to God for the grace, my coach (Purity Akuh) for his contributions and guidance in my career as well as my teammates for their support throughout my career.
“I defeated the former champion in the weight class at the 1st Gov Diri National Wrestling Classics but lost to Harrison Israel last year. I went back home and prepared for both of them because I made up my mind to defeat everybody at the second edition.”
