Nigeria U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, defeated Rwanda 4-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, on Saturday to advance to the third round of the FIFAU20WWC qualifier, www.aclsports.com reports.
The result completed a comprehensive 5-0 aggregate victory for the two-time World Cup silver medallists, who had earned a narrow 1-0 first-leg win in Kigali the previous weekend.
Coach Moses Aduku made three changes from the first-leg win, with Kesseina Oyijovwi, Fatimoh Tumininu and Esther Inyang coming in for Miracle Usani, Kafayat Mafisere and Alaba Olabiyi.
Precious Oscar opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing calmly after Janet Akekoromowei’s dazzling run down the flank and precise pull-back. Seven minutes later, Fatimoh Tumininu doubled Nigeria’s lead with a superbly struck free-kick.
The Falconets carried their 2-0 cushion into the break. Janet was rewarded for her lively display in the 59th minute, when her fierce left-footed drive from distance slipped through the goalkeeper’s hands to make it 3-0. Kesseina Oyijovwi thought she had extended the lead with a header in the 65th minute, but the effort was ruled out for a foul.
Nigeria sealed the rout in stoppage time, as Taiwo Afolabi diverted the ball past the goalkeeper to crown a dominant display and secure a 4-0 victory.
The Falconets will now turn their attention to the third round, as they continue their quest to secure one of Africa’s four slots at the 24-team FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, scheduled for 5–27 September 2026 in Poland.
