Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu grabbed a brace in Trabzonspor’s thrilling 4-3 win at Karagumruk in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday night, www.aclsports.com reports.
Onuachu, 31, who was on target in his side’s 1-1 draw with Gaziantep last time out, scored twice to help his side secure their fourth win of the season in difficult circumstances at Ataturk Olimpiyat in Istanbul.
It was a goalfest first-half in the capital with Felipe Augusto handing Trabzon the lead in the 19th minute before the hosts got their equalizer in the 28th minute through Tiago Cukur. However, two goals from Paul Onuachu in the final minutes of the half got the visitors back in the lead. The lanky forward acrobatically finished off a teasing cross from Wagner Pina to put the visitors back in front in the 35th minute before increasing the lead with another goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time. Karadeniz Fırtınası took the lead into the break and were firmly in charge of the contest.
Three minutes upon restart, Karagumruk had a goal disallowed for offside, before the former Southampton striker was taken off in the 90th minute, two minutes after Danylo Sikan made it 4-1 to Trabzonspor. However, the home side staged a late rally with a double from David Datro Fofana in stoppage time, but the visitors held on for a precious win – their first in four games.
Onuachu has now scored five times in seven Super Lig appearances for Karadeniz Fırtınası this season. With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations a few months away, the out-of-favour striker could play himself into consideration if he continues to rack up the goals in Turkey.
