Nigeria’s national Under 20 team; the Flying Eagles will get their 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup (U20WC) campaign underway with a match against Dominican Republic on Sunday night in Mendoza.
Argentina, record winners of this tournament are hosts of this edition, taking over from Indonesia who were stripped of hosting rights due to political reasons, giving the South Americans a chance to host again 22 years after staging it in 2001.
Nigeria are in Group D alongside Dominican Republic as well as football powerhouses Brazil and Italy. The Flying Eagles will face the minnows, attending their first ever international football tournament on Sunday night.
Nigeria head coach Ladan Bosso, having another shot at the U20 World Cup after his baptism of fire in the tournament in 2007 hopes to start the 2023 tournament on a good note against Dominican Republic.
“All we are looking for is to see how we can get our three points convincingly against Dominican Republic and that should send a signal to our subsequent opponents,” said Bosso to the NFF TV.
