Portuguese champions Benfica Women have announced the signing of Nigerian winger Flourish Chioma Sabastine on a free transfer until 2029, with an option to extend the deal by a further year, www.aclsports.com reports.
Sabastine arrives following the expiration of her contract with Turkish champions Fenerbahçe, where she helped the club win the Turkcell Women’s Football Super League title during the 2025/26 season.
The 21-year-old joined Fenerbahçe from rivals Galatasaray last year after previously spending time in France with Stade de Reims. She now takes the next step in her career with a move to Portugal.
Speaking after completing the move, Sabastine expressed her delight at joining the Portuguese giants.
“It’s very good for me to join one of the biggest clubs in the world. I’m very happy and very pleased to be here.”
The Nigerian international also revealed that former Benfica midfielder Christy Ucheibe played an important role in her decision to join the club.
“We talked a few times and she spoke very highly of the team. It was very important to me. Christy told me that Benfica is a club she’ll never forget. In terms of her career, it was here that she evolved a lot as a player.”
Sabastine is Benfica’s second Nigerian signing of the transfer window, joining compatriot Janet Akekoromowei, who completed her move from Nasarawa Amazons last month.
Benfica will hope Sabastine’s arrival adds further quality to a squad aiming to retain its domestic crown and make an impact in European competition this season.
