President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward pledge to the Super Falcons following their triumph at the WAFCON 2024 in Morocco, www.aclsports.com reports.
In a statement, the National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that each player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, approximately ₦140 million, while each coach and official received the equivalent of $50,000.
The payments complete the cash component of the reward package approved by the President after Nigeria secured its record-extending 10th continental title with a 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in the final.
The team had earlier received three-bedroom apartments and certificates for the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), completing the non-cash aspects of the presidential reward package.
NSC chairman Shehu Dikko thanked President Tinubu for fulfilling his commitment, describing the payment as a departure from previous experiences in which some Nigerian athletes waited years, and in some cases decades, to receive rewards promised for their achievements.
Dikko said the fulfilment of the reward package would encourage Nigerian athletes to represent the country with confidence, while also inspiring young Nigerians, particularly girls who look up to the Super Falcons.
He also thanked the Ministers of Finance, Special Duties and Housing for their support in completing the reward process.
The NSC cited similar cash rewards given to D’Tigress in September 2026 after their 2025 AfroBasket triumph, as well as the fulfilment of the Super Eagles’ rewards following their 2023 AFCON silver-medal finish.
