Tough draws for Nigerian clubs in CAF competitions

Nigerian clubs in next season’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) Inter-Club competitions were handed tough draws in the preliminary round on Friday, reports www.aclsports.com

Apart from former African Champions Enyimba FC who were drawn bye from the CAF Confederation Cup, the trio of Bayelsa United (Confederation Cup), Akwa United and Rivers United (TotalEnergies CAF Champions League) were drawn against tough oppositions.

In the draws conducted at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Champions Akwa United were drawn against Algerian league leaders Chabab Belouizdad in their first continental game in over three years.

Young Africans (Tanzania) vs Rivers United (Nigeria)
Akwa United (Nigeria) vs CR Belouizdad (Algeria)#TotalEnergiesCAFCC:
Ashanti GB (Guinea) vs Bayelsa Utd (Nigeria)

Teams written first will host 1st leg between September 10-12.

Akwa’s neighbours, Rivers United, also making a return to the Champions League after four and half years were handed a tie against Young Africans of Tanzania in their own preliminary round encounter.

In the Confederation Cup, shock Aiteo Cup winners Bayelsa United will face AS Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea for a chance to reach the first round of the Confederation Cup.

The first leg preliminary round fixtures will hold on the weekend of 10th to 12th September 2021 with Akwa United the only Nigerian side hosting their first leg game. The game against Belouizdad holds at the Nest of Champions, Uyo.

The second leg games hold a week later.
