Former West African champion, Taiwo Mati has joined French Pro B side Le Havre from Ginasio clube de Valbom. Mati spent two seasons in the Portuguese Table Tennis League,

Mati, who last represented Nigeria at the 2023 African Games in Ghana, believes that moving to France will enhance his chances of returning to the national team and improving his game.

“I decided to move to France to step up my game and play in a more competitive league. My target is to improve and play as many matches as possible. The French leagues, both Pro A and B, are more competitive than the Portuguese league,” he said.

In addition to playing regularly for his new team in the French league, Mati plans to participate in more WTT events to earn ranking points. “I intend to go to more WTT events and earn more ranking points. By doing so, I’m sure I’ll be back in the national team,” he added.

Since joining Le Havre, Mati has become an integral member of the team. In their league opener away to Nice, they recorded a 3-2 victory, starting their quest for promotion to Pro A on a positive note. “I will also ensure I train regularly with top players in France to improve my game. I am so excited that I am getting closer to my dream of playing in the best league in the world,” he enthused.

Overall, the French League Pro B is a must-watch tournament for table tennis enthusiasts, offering a captivating blend of skill, athleticism, and sportsmanship.
