Nigeria took part in its first ever Amputee World Cup championship last October in Mexico with Sarafadeen Olalekan Oyeleke a member of the squad that represented the country.

Nigeria Amputee Football Federation (NAFF) has announced the list of 23 players called to represent the country in the fifth edition of Cup of African Nations Amputee Football (CANAF).

The list which comprises of 22 home-based players has only Sarafadeen Olalekan Oyeleke of Bursa in Turkey as the only foreign based player in camp at the National Institute of Sport, National Stadium Lagos state.

The tournament which is billed to take place in Benguela, Angola between September 30 to October 14, will see Nigeria compete against nine other Africa countries, host Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Tanzania, Togo, Rwanda and Sierra Leone.

Liberia are defending champions and have won the last three editions of the tournament while Ghana won the inaugural edition hosted in 2007 in Sierra Leone.

The Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football (CANAF) is a biennial tournament organised by the Amputee Football Federation for Africa (AFFA) to determine Africa’s best team and also serves as part of qualifiers for the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) organised Amputee World Cup.

Sarafadeen Olalekan Oyeleke is the Founder Chairman and CEO of Hope for the Disable Project, a small gesture of his as a way of giving back to the society and encouraging the disables that, “there is ability in disability”.
