Remo Stars Ladies head coach Wemimo Mattew says the team’s first target is to qualify for the Super Six following their 3–0 South-West derby victory over Dannaz Ladies in the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership, www.aclsports.com reports.

Speaking after the match, Coach Wemimo Mattew reflected on her team’s performance.

“Yeah, it was a good game. Although in the first half it was a little bit tough for the girls to break through their defence, in the second half we were able to do better. They were all over us, but we were able to calm the pressure, and getting the early goal helped us stabilise the game. Coming here, our target was to pick the three points. Although we didn’t really expect to score up to three goals, picking the three points is more important for us, and I’m happy about it,” she said.

Mattew highlighted Aishat Animashaun’s contribution, particularly her free-kick.

“She has been doing well since the beginning of the season, so it’s not a surprise. She hasn’t been able to score, but today she had her chances and was able to put the ball into the net. Mostly the first goal — she fought through the defence and never gave up, and she was able to score. As for the free-kick, she has been very good at them even in training sessions. That was why I asked her to take it, and she was able to deliver, which is good,” the coach added.

Looking ahead, Mattew stressed that qualifying for the Super Six remains the team’s first priority.

“Like every other team, our first target is to qualify for the Super Six. As of now, I think we should be in second position in our group. Nevertheless, we are still trying to see if we can get maybe two or three outstanding players to bring into the team in order to beef up the squad,” she said.

Midfielder Aishat Animashaun also spoke after the match, expressing her delight and confidence in the squad following her two-goal performance at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Wednesday.

“I feel happy and grateful to my team-mates for giving me the confidence, the courage, and for trusting in me,” she said.

On the team’s potential this season, she added: “Very far — the highest place. I believe in my team-mates and I believe in the technical crew that they can give us their best, and we are also giving them our best.”

Speaking on their position in the Premiership and how far they can go in the upcoming Super Six, Animashaun said:

“Yeah, the Super Six is going to be great. The way we are playing now is going to put us at the top there. The confidence is there, so we are going to be great.”

As the season reaches its mid-point, Remo Stars Ladies will be hoping to carry their momentum and belief forward, with a clear focus on their objectives and making a significant impact in the Super Six.
