The NSC and the NFF have jointly established a Welfare Committee for the Super Falcons ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, www.aclsports.com reports.
The initiative followed a meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday between NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, and NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
The committee will be led by NFF Executive Board member Aisha Falode, with Ruth David appointed as secretary. Other members include Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen, Babagana Kalli, Emeka Iyama, Aderonke Tinuoye, and Tobechukwu Oluchi.
The NSC said the new structure is designed to strengthen welfare coordination and ensure a smooth preparation for the Super Falcons as they defend their WAFCON title in Morocco.
Olopade said the Federal Government remains fully committed to the team’s success, stressing that player welfare is a key priority.
“Mr President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, are both personally committed to seeing that the Falcons successfully defend their title in Morocco. That is why this ad-hoc committee has been created to support the NFF in ensuring a seamless campaign for the team,” he said.
He further emphasised that proper welfare structures are essential to sporting success.
“Welfare is a non-negotiable part of any team’s success in competition, and with this committee in place, the players can rest assured that both the NSC and NFF are fully committed to their wellbeing for WAFCON,” he added.
NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi described the development as a significant milestone, noting that it is the first time such a welfare body has been created for the senior women’s national team ahead of a major tournament.
“This reflects the level of attention the NSC is giving to women’s football, and it will further accelerate the growth of the women’s game in Nigeria,” Sanusi said.
He added that the committee’s role is strictly supportive, aimed at ensuring smooth coordination rather than replacing existing team structures.
“This committee is not coming to take over anyone’s responsibilities but to ensure that we have a well-organised and seamless campaign at the tournament,” he explained.
Nigeria have been drawn into Group C, where they will take on Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi.
