Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams reached their respective finals on day four of the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon, www.aclsports.com reports.
The women’s 4x100m quartet of Lucy Nwankwo, Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo, Tejiri Ugoh and Miracle Ezechukwu advanced after finishing third in their heat in 43.65 seconds. Nigeria claimed the final automatic qualification spot.
Ezechukwu played a decisive role on the anchor leg, producing a 9.81-second split to move the Nigerian team from fourth into third position at the finish.
There was further success for Nigeria in the women’s 4x400m relay as Becky Ebiyadi, Jecinta Lawrence, Tejiri Ugoh and Faith Ezechukwu booked a place in the final. The Nigerian quartet finished third in their heat in 3:35.28, behind Italy and Great Britain, to secure qualification for the medal race.
Earlier in the day, Nigeria finished fourth in the mixed 4x100m final through the quartet of Tejiri Godwin, Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo, Perfect Faye and Miracle Ezechukwu. The quartet clocked a National U20 Record time of 41.77 seconds.
Nigeria was seventh at the final exchange before Ezechukwu produced a 9.89-second anchor split to gain three places and bring the team home in fourth position.
Meanwhile, Success Oyibu ended her women’s 200m campaign with a fifth-place finish in the final, clocking 23.27 seconds.
Oyibu had qualified for the final after winning both her heat and semi-final on the previous day. Mia Maxwell won gold in 22.37 seconds, while Jamaica’s Shaniya Douglas took silver in 22.68 seconds. Mariah Maxwell claimed bronze in 22.77 seconds.
Nigeria will now turn its attention to the women’s 4x100m and 4x400m finals on the final day of the championships in Oregon.
